The short version: BiteWindow does not collect your data. Everything you enter stays on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no ads. The AI coach runs entirely on your iPhone.
BiteWindow is an iOS app that gives a personalized fishing forecast, developed and operated by Anshul Jain ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles and how.
When you use BiteWindow, you may enter information such as the species you fish for, your skill level and preferences, your home water and saved spots, and a catch log (dates, weights, baits, notes, and photos). All of this is stored only in the app's local database on your iPhone, using Apple's SwiftData. It is never transmitted to us — we operate no servers and have no ability to see, access, or recover it.
If you have iCloud enabled, this data may sync privately between your own devices through your personal iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit private database). We have no access to that iCloud data; it is governed by Apple's privacy policy. Your on-device data is protected by your device passcode and iOS encryption, and is included in your device backups if you have them enabled.
To build an accurate forecast, BiteWindow needs the location of the water you are fishing. When you grant location access, or when you choose a home water, the app uses those coordinates to request weather data from Apple WeatherKit. Your coordinates are sent to Apple's weather service only to return a forecast; they are not sent to us, and we operate no servers that could receive them. Apple's handling of that request is governed by Apple's privacy policy. You can use the app without granting location access by searching for and selecting your water manually.
BiteWindow's AI Coach uses Apple Intelligence — Apple's on-device foundation model. Your questions, your profile, and the forecast context are processed entirely on your iPhone. Nothing you ask the coach is sent to us, to Apple, or to any third-party AI service, and there is no server involved. On devices that do not support Apple Intelligence, the coach falls back to a simple rule-based tips engine that also runs entirely on-device.
BiteWindow Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, payment details, or Apple Account information. The app checks your subscription status on-device using Apple's StoreKit framework. Purchases are subject to Apple's privacy policy.
The app may ask for access to your location (to fetch the forecast for your water), your photo library (only when you choose to attach a photo to a catch), and notifications (only to alert you on good fishing mornings). Each is optional and requested in context. BiteWindow requests no other permissions.
BiteWindow is a general-audience outdoors app and is not directed at children. Since the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.
Your data belongs to you and lives only on your device (and your own iCloud, if enabled). To erase everything, delete the app — iOS removes its entire local database. There is nothing for us to delete on any server, because nothing was ever sent to one.
BiteWindow is informational only. Forecasts and coach suggestions can be wrong. Always follow your local fishing regulations, seasons, and limits — the app never determines what is legal to catch or keep.
If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and change the effective date above before the change ships. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
