Terms of Use

These terms apply to the Cairn iOS app, developed and operated by Anshul Jain ("we", "us"). By using Cairn you agree to these terms and to Apple's standard EULA.

What Cairn is

Cairn is a private album for the life of a pet. It builds a month by month record from photographs already in your library, lets you add a note or a voice recording, brings back memories from earlier years, and keeps a quiet file of your animal's records. It is not a social network. Nobody else can see your album.

Not veterinary advice

Cairn is not veterinary advice and it is not a medical device. The Vault is a place to keep what your veterinarian gave you, nothing more. Cairn does not diagnose, does not treat, does not interpret, and does not tell you what any number means.

• Weights are shown only against your animal's own history over time. Cairn never compares them to a breed, an average, or any other animal.
• Any next due date you see is the one you entered yourself. Cairn never works one out and never marks a date as overdue.
• Medication names and doses are text you type. Nothing is checked, validated, or suggested.
• The comfort log records what you observe. It produces no score, no total, no threshold, and no verdict.

Decisions about your animal's health and care belong to you and your veterinarian. Always consult a qualified veterinary professional, and seek urgent care when something is wrong.

What the app writes, and what it will never write

Cairn writes short prose about the week you recorded, generated on your own device. That writing can be imperfect, and it is built only from what you put in.

Cairn never generates your animal's voice, image, or messages. Not as a feature, and not after they are gone. Everything in your album was made by you, while they were here. Cairn's on-device writing is never used for anything about your animal's health.

Your content and your backups

Everything you create in Cairn is yours. We claim no rights over it and we never receive it. Because it lives on your device, keeping it safe is shared work: use the archive export in Settings, and keep your device backups on. We cannot recover anything for you, because we never had it.

What is free

The album itself is free, with no limit on moments, photographs, months, or years. So is the whole Vault including its PDF export, the daily capture, and every part of the later years, final days, and remembrance features. Those are never placed behind a payment, and if you mark that an animal has died, Cairn stops offering you anything to buy for that animal from that point on.

Subscriptions and purchases

• Cairn Companion is an auto renewable subscription, offered yearly at USD 39.99 or monthly at USD 6.99. It unlocks unlimited Look Backs, a weekly letter instead of a monthly one, daily resurfacing, and the Life Book while it is active. Prices may differ by region.
• The yearly plan starts with 7 days free for new subscribers. It converts to a paid year unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
• Manage or cancel in iOS Settings, then your Apple Account, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• The Life Book is a one time purchase of USD 19.99. It is yours permanently and keeps working if a subscription lapses or you never had one. Subscribers already have it while their subscription is active.
• Billing is handled by Apple. Refund requests go to reportaproblem.apple.com.

Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to reverse engineer the app, and do not use it unlawfully. You need to be old enough to hold an Apple Account in your country.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Cairn is provided "as is", without warranties, including as to the accuracy of on-device generated content or the preservation of data on your device. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before a claim.
