Unknot

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 20, 2026

The short version: everything you tell Iris stays on your iPhone. Your questions are answered by Apple's on-device intelligence and are never sent to us or to any third-party AI service. Unknot has no accounts, no analytics SDKs, no ads, and no servers of ours that receive your data.

Who we are

Unknot is an iOS app developed and operated by Anshul Jain ("we", "us"). It provides an AI conversation partner, Iris, for thinking through personal questions and decisions.

Your conversations — on your device only

The situations you describe, the questions you ask, Iris's replies, the memory notes the app keeps, and anything you write in "Tell Iris about your life" are stored only in the app's local storage on your iPhone. Replies are generated by Apple's on-device intelligence (Apple Foundation Models) or the app's built-in deterministic engine, entirely on your device. Nothing you write is transmitted to us or to any third-party AI service.

Visible, editable memory

Everything Iris "remembers" is listed in plain language under Settings → "What Iris knows". You can delete any single memory, or clear all of it, at any time. Deleting the app removes everything. Because we hold no copy, deletion on your device is complete deletion.

Purchases

Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details.

Notifications

Check-ins are local notifications scheduled on your device. There is no push server, and their content is composed on your phone.

What we do not do

Backups

Your data is protected by your passcode and iOS encryption, and included in your iCloud or computer backups if enabled; backups are governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Age & wellbeing

Unknot is intended for adults (17+). It is a reflection tool, not a mental-health service; if a conversation suggests you may be in crisis, the app shows free helpline resources instead of advice.
