Effective date: July 12, 2026
The short version: your sleep data belongs to you and stays on your iPhone. Audio is analyzed on your device and never uploaded. Rested has no accounts, no analytics SDKs, no ads, and no servers of ours that receive your data.
Rested is an iOS sleep tracking app developed and operated by Anshul Jain ("we", "us"). Because Rested works with health-related information (your sleep), this document serves as both our general privacy policy and our Health Data Privacy Policy as required by Apple's HealthKit guidelines.
When you track a night, Rested records movement information from your iPhone's motion sensors, the times you went to bed and woke up, computed metrics such as your Sleep Score, and any notes, mood ratings, or manual entries you add. All of this is stored only in the app's local database on your iPhone. We operate no servers and have no ability to see, access, or recover your sleep data.
Because the data lives on your device, it is protected by your device passcode and iOS encryption, and it is included in your device backups if you have iCloud or computer backups enabled. Those backups are governed by Apple's privacy policy, not by us.
If you allow microphone access, Rested listens during your sleep session to detect snoring, coughing, and sleep talking. This analysis happens entirely on your device. Raw audio is never transmitted anywhere. Short clips of detected events (for example, a few seconds of snoring) are saved locally on your iPhone only so you can play them back in your morning report, and you can delete them at any time. If you deny microphone access, tracking still works using motion only.
With your permission, Rested reads sleep, heart rate, and heart-rate-variability data from Apple Health (for example, data recorded by an Apple Watch) to improve the accuracy of your sleep analysis, and writes the sleep sessions it records back to Apple Health so your data is in one place.
Rested Pro subscriptions and the one-time Lifetime purchase are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, payment details, or Apple Account information. The app checks your subscription status on-device using Apple's StoreKit framework. Purchases are subject to Apple's privacy policy.
If you enable notifications, Rested schedules local reminders on your device (bedtime wind-down, morning report ready, and a reminder before a free trial ends). These are generated on your iPhone; no notification data leaves your device.
Settings → Data lets you export all of your sleep data as a file you own, and permanently delete all data the app has stored. Deleting the app from your device also removes its local database (subject to any device backups you keep).
Rested provides sleep estimates for general wellness purposes only. It is not a medical device, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. If you have concerns about your sleep or health, consult a qualified physician.
Rested is intended for adults and is not directed at children. Since the app sends us no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
