Effective date: July 17, 2026
The short version: Sift does not collect your data. Your documents are scanned, read, titled, and filed entirely on your iPhone. Sift has no servers, no account, and makes no network calls. No analytics, no tracking, no ads.
Sift is an iOS document scanner that titles and files your scans automatically, developed and operated by Anshul Jain ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles and how.
Every page you scan, the text Sift reads from it, the title and category it derives, and your app settings are stored only in the app's local database on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData. They are never transmitted to us — we operate no servers and have no ability to see, access, or recover your documents. If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it.
Sift reads your documents using Apple's Vision framework, which performs text recognition entirely on your iPhone. The recognized text is used to suggest a title, pick a category, and make the document searchable. There is no cloud OCR, no AI service, and no server involved. Your documents — including IDs, contracts, medical records, and receipts — never leave your device.
Sift uses the camera only while you are actively scanning, via Apple's VisionKit document scanner. Captured pages are written straight into Sift's local database on your device. We never receive, upload, or store a copy of anything you scan.
So you can find a document from your Home Screen, Sift adds your document titles and recognized text to Core Spotlight, Apple's on-device search index. This index lives on your iPhone and is managed by iOS. It is not sent to us or to Apple as a copy of your documents. Deleting a document in Sift removes it from the index, and deleting the app removes the whole index.
Sift Pro is an optional subscription or one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, payment details, or Apple Account information. The app checks your purchase status on-device using Apple's StoreKit framework. Purchases are subject to Apple's privacy policy.
Sift is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — of any age — because it collects no personal information at all.
Regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none. Your documents are already exclusively in your possession: you can view, edit, export as PDF, or delete any of them at any time inside the app, and deleting Sift removes everything it stored.
If Sift ever gains a feature that changes how data is handled — for example optional iCloud sync — we will update this policy and the effective date above before that feature ships, and describe plainly what changes.
