Sift

Terms of Use

Effective date: July 17, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Anshul Jain ("we", "us") covering your use of the Sift iOS application ("the app"). By downloading or using the app you agree to these Terms. If you obtained the app through the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; where these Terms grant you more, these Terms control between you and us.

1. What Sift is

Sift is a document scanner. It captures pages with your camera, reads the text on them using on-device text recognition, suggests a title and category automatically, and makes them searchable — including from your Home Screen. It stores your documents on your device, requires no account, and works offline. It is a scanning and organizing tool. It is not a legal, medical, tax, accounting, or records-retention service, and it is not a backup service.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, in accordance with these Terms and the App Store rules. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, or redistribute the app except where the law expressly permits.

3. What is free, and what Sift Pro adds

Sift is free to download, and the core of the app is free forever, with no limits and no watermark: unlimited scanning, unlimited pages, on-device text recognition, automatic titling, automatic filing, search across your library, Spotlight indexing, and PDF export. We can offer this without limits because it all runs on your device and costs us nothing to serve.

Sift Pro is optional and adds: sync & backup, document expiry reminders, batch tools (multi-select move, merge, and export), text export, and password-protected PDF export.

4. Subscriptions, trial, and billing

Sift Pro is available as an auto-renewing subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Current options:

Exact prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by region. In the app, every plan and its price is displayed on a single screen, and the price you will be charged is printed on the purchase button itself.

5. Your documents are your responsibility

Sift stores your documents on your device and we have no copy of them. That is a deliberate privacy choice, and it has a consequence you should understand clearly: if you lose your device, delete the app, or your device fails, documents that exist only in Sift are gone, and we cannot recover them. Keep your own backups of anything important — for example via an encrypted iPhone backup, or by exporting PDFs to Files or another service you control. You are responsible for retaining originals of anything with legal, tax, or medical significance.

6. Accuracy of text recognition and automatic titling

Sift reads your documents automatically and suggests titles, categories, dates, and — if you enable reminders — expiry dates. This is done by software and it will sometimes be wrong. Recognized text may contain errors, a suggested title may misread a document, and a detected date may be the wrong one. Every suggestion is editable, and you should check anything that matters. Do not rely on Sift's recognized text, categories, or reminders as a substitute for reading the actual document, and do not rely on expiry reminders as your only safeguard against a document expiring.

7. Acceptable use

You may only scan documents you have the right to scan. Do not use Sift to copy material you have no right to reproduce, or to capture other people's identity documents or confidential records without their consent. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you.

8. Privacy

Sift collects nothing and sends nothing. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

9. Changes to the app and these Terms

We may update the app and these Terms. If we make a material change we will update the effective date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms. We may also discontinue the app; if we do, your locally stored documents remain on your device and exportable.

10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost or unrecoverable documents. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law permits. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Apple

Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support for the app. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim you have relating to the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
