RemoteNest for Android. Effective date: October 31, 2026
RemoteNest for Android ("RemoteNest", "the app") is a TV remote app published on Google Play by Anshul Apps ("we", "us") with the package name com.remotenest.android. This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: RemoteNest talks to your TV directly over your home Wi-Fi, what you send to the TV goes only to the TV, there is no account, and we run no servers that receive your data. The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob, and the ad software sends some device information to Google to show those ads.
1. Who we are
RemoteNest for Android is published on Google Play by Anshul Apps, an independent developer. You can reach us at anshul.jainsm@gmail.com.
2. Finding and controlling your TV on your local network
When you tap Scan for TVs, RemoteNest searches your local Wi-Fi network for TVs and streaming devices using the standard SSDP discovery protocol, and asks the devices that answer for their name, model and network (MAC) address. It works with Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS) and Roku TVs and devices, and, in beta, Sony Bravia TVs and Amazon Fire TV.
Everything you do with the remote goes straight from your phone to your TV over your local network, and to nowhere else:
- button presses, touchpad gestures and the apps you open on the TV;
- text you type with Send Text to TV, for example a search or a password, which is passed to the TV and is not kept by the app;
- pairing information: the first time you connect, most TVs ask you to allow RemoteNest, and Samsung and LG TVs then give the app a pairing token or client key so you do not have to approve it again;
- a Wake-on-LAN signal, broadcast only on your local network and carrying your saved TV's network (MAC) address, when the app tries to reconnect to a TV that does not answer.
None of this is sent to us or to any server on the internet.
3. What the app stores on your phone
RemoteNest keeps a small amount of information in its private storage on your phone:
- the TV you connected to: its name, brand, model, IP address and network (MAC) address, so the app can reconnect next time;
- the pairing tokens and keys your Samsung or LG TV gave the app;
- your settings, such as haptic feedback, and whether you have finished the welcome screens.
This information is not sent to us and we cannot see it. Your TV may also keep its own record that it allowed RemoteNest; you can remove it in your TV's settings.
4. Casting photos and videos
On the Cast screen RemoteNest finds DLNA media renderers, such as most smart TVs, on your local network. When you choose photos or a video, the app opens only the items you pick with Android's picker. While you cast, your phone makes the item available at a temporary address on your local network and tells the TV to play it, using the standard DLNA (UPnP) protocol. The item goes only to the TV on your network. RemoteNest does not upload it, does not save a copy and does not browse the rest of your photo library.
For this the app declares Android's photo and video permissions (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, and READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and earlier).
5. Demo mode
If you do not have a supported TV nearby, No TV? Try the demo connects the app to a virtual TV shown inside the app, so you can try every control. The demo TV runs entirely on your phone: demo button presses and text are not sent to any TV or to us, and the demo TV is never saved as your TV. Ads can still appear while you use the demo.
6. Ads and Google AdMob
RemoteNest is free and shows ads from Google AdMob, part of Google LLC: a banner on some screens, such as the Remote and Cast screens, and, now and then, a full screen ad, for example after you connect a TV. No ad is shown when you start the demo TV.
To show, measure and limit ads, for analytics and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads software in the app collects and shares with Google:
- device identifiers: your phone's advertising ID and the app set ID and, where applicable, other identifiers related to accounts signed in on the phone;
- your IP address, which can be used to estimate your approximate location;
- device and app information, such as the phone model, Android version, language and app version;
- how you use the app and interact with ads, such as app launches, ad views and taps;
- diagnostic information about how the app and the ad software perform, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy use.
Google states that the Mobile Ads software encrypts this data in transit. RemoteNest never passes your TV details, pairing keys, the text you type or the photos and videos you cast to the ad software. We receive only aggregated reports from AdMob, such as the number of ads shown, which do not identify you.
How Google uses this information is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and in Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
7. Your ad choices
- Consent: where privacy laws require it, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, RemoteNest version 1.0.5 and later shows Google's consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform) before the ad software starts, and Settings then shows Privacy choices, where you can review or change your choice at any time. Google's consent software stores your choice on your phone. Earlier versions of the app do not show this form; update RemoteNest from Google Play to get it.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your Android settings (usually under Privacy, then Ads; the exact place varies by phone).
- Without consent, or with personalized ads turned off, Google can still show ads that are not personalized.
8. Permissions
- Internet, network state and Wi-Fi state: to reach your TV on your local network, and for ads and Google's consent form.
- Wi-Fi multicast: to discover TVs and DLNA renderers on your local network.
- Photos and videos: to cast the items you choose, as described in section 4.
- Vibration: for haptic feedback when you press a button. You can turn it off in Settings.
- Advertising ID and Android ad services: used by Google AdMob as described above.
RemoteNest does not ask for access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or phone calls.
9. No account, no purchases, no analytics of our own
- There is no account and no sign in.
- There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Every feature is free.
- We do not add analytics or crash reporting services of our own. The only third party software that sends data off your phone is Google's ad and consent software described above.
10. Android backup and a new phone
RemoteNest uses Android's standard backup settings. If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android can include the app's stored data (your saved TV, pairing keys and settings) in that backup and restore it when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone, and the same data can be copied when you move to a new phone with a device to device transfer. Backups are made and stored by Google under your Google account settings, not by us, and you can turn backup off in your Android settings.
11. Deleting your data
Tapping Disconnect in Settings makes the app forget the connected TV. To delete everything RemoteNest stored on your phone, including pairing keys, settings and your ad consent choice, clear the app's storage in Android settings (usually Apps, then RemoteNest, then Storage; the exact place varies by phone) or uninstall the app. Copies in a Google backup stay until you delete them in your Google account. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. To stop a TV from trusting RemoteNest, remove the app from the TV's list of connected devices in the TV's settings. For data Google collects for ads, see Google's Privacy Policy and your Android ad settings.
12. Selling and sharing
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Apart from the advertising information Google collects, described above, the app shares nothing with third parties.
- The commands, text, pairing information and media you send to your TV go only to that TV on your local network.
13. Children
RemoteNest is meant for a general adult audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
14. Security
The information the app stores stays in its private storage on your phone, where it is protected by the phone's own security; keep a screen lock turned on. Some TV control protocols and DLNA casting use unencrypted connections that only work inside your local network, so use RemoteNest on a home network you trust.
15. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new effective date.
